Happy 2007

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Since I grew out of my moody teenager phase, each year of my life has been the best. Something happened a few years ago where I realized that I could choose to be happy regardless of what was going on around me. In fact, I’m quite enjoying getting older and maturing as I go along. 2006 was the best year of my life and 2007 is shaping up to be even better. Wohoo! Hope you feel the same way about your years!

What Would You Do?

Sunday, December 24th, 2006

This holiday season I’m finding myself with more questions than answers about what I want to do next with my life. Spending the last few years in a perpetual state of doing and growing has left me little time to reflect. So just for fun: what would you do if you were Will Pate? Work for a cool web startup? Start your own? Try to change a big company from the inside? Travel? Become an electrician? Explore your creative side? You tell me.

Shai Rocks

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

I’m even a hair model on her website. The best part is that the picture was taken with a camera phone and it still looks totally badass. If you live in the Vancouver area, fire your stylist and only let Shai touch your hair.

Sublimating

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Over the next few weeks I will be moving to a part time contract position with Flock and handing over much of the community management to Evan Hamilton. You’ll still see me blogging for them a few times a week about community news (send me stuff!), gathering feedback and responding to bloggers and pitching in to help him where it fits. Evan is very capable, a natural at the job and I have great faith in him. I hope the Flock community gives him the same warm welcome and cooperation they did for me.

Before the rumor mill starts, allow me to nip it in the bud – this was my decision and I will remain a part of the Flock family. In the fast paced environment of a startup, it’s a big challenge to be the lead community facing person. Being off site in Canada and made it even harder to give the community the excellent work they deserve.

I’m not sure yet what my next full time adventure will be, but you can keep in the loop here on my blog and my Flickr photos, and you can always get in touch if you want to. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start a YouTube show. If you want to endorse the work I did at Flock, please add one to my LinkedIn profile. If you know anyone that needs a community person to rock out their company, let me know. I’ll probably post more about what I’m looking for later.

If you’re wondering where I got the blog post title from, well Chris Messina and Andy Smith both used the same one when they became Flock alumni too.
