Guerrilla Marketing Tactics for Online Publishers

In November I spoke at nextMEDIA: Monetizing Digital Media. I got some major props for my talk, and a lot of people who heard about it have asked me to write it all down and share it online for everyone. I’m still working on that, taking my time because I want to do the subject justice. In the meantime here is my 20 minute talk edited down to 7 minutes. I hope you enjoy it! Please feel free to post any questions in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer them.
If you’d like me to speak at your organization, please drop me a line.
That's it. What Next?

Great video, Will. I’ve dugg, stumbleupon’d, del.icio.us’d it. It would have been better if it were 2 minutes shorter, however ; ).

Great video Will. You mentioned YouTube and I’ve been tracking YouKu and how the clever marketers are crossing over to get the Asian market. Thanks for posting this.

interesting point about RSS vs email subsciptions at the start of your talk. saw some research the other day that parallels this – looking at top execs awareness of web 2.0/social media tools – RSS was totally at the bottom. behind Wikis even. & Well behind pod/vidwebcasts, youtube, social networking sites and blogs – this raised my eyebrows at the time, since RSS seems so obvious and simple. but hey, email is still pretty huge- and exec types are always on their bberrys aren’t they?

Wow! I had no idea. This presentation totally explains a lot of what’s going on these days. I’m so disconnected, yaaaaay!
So how does this pertain to those of us (me), who do not wish to keep up with the meta, meta interruptions and online sites, but we still want the connection and be support-ed/-ive?
Example, I love Twitter. Oh I just love Twitter and the people. Since being introduced to delicious, digg and other sites I have not registered. I skipped myspace, facebook, and the above on purpose.
Merlin explained it exactly when giving a demo for Quicksilver (QS) on MacBreak (video) to Leo. You don’t want to go into the Applications folder and click on the actual app to execute. You want easier access, less steps. I’m not sure if i’m explaining this properly.
Time to disconnect. Sabbath’s coming. Keep up that great vibe.

Hi Will ~
Re YouKu – its a great opportunity for videobloggers/emarketers/etc to tap into the Asian market or at least give it a try to see if there are any bites. The effort would include (1) being culturally savvy as their market may be different from their own – so they have to do research like watching similar videos to the ones they’re publishing so they know the approach and (2) in localizing their materials not only would they need to be knowledgeable as to which Asian dialect and language their videos will be in so as to cast a wide net. I’ll be blogging about it this weekend for further details. Just capturing some numbers.

Great video. Do you know of any good sites or videos online that are on the online marketing (catered toward web 2.0 / social networking). Ones you like or stand out at having good information. Thanks

Nice presentation Will. I like the part about Digg. I’ve always struggled getting much traction there.

Great stuff Will! I work with helping people find the perfect career, and lately we have been emphasizing “self branding” using blogs and other new media/web 2.0 tools. I have added this video to my del.icio.us bookmarks and will send folks here to learn more about what they can do to improve their personal brand. Thank you so much for sharing this!
I’m sure you are familiar with Tom Peters article from Fast Company 10 years ago that got us all started thinking about self-branding. But just in case, here’s a link to that article — http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/10/brandyou.html It’s true NOW more than ever!
