What Would You Do?
Published on 24/12/06

This holiday season I’m finding myself with more questions than answers about what I want to do next with my life. Spending the last few years in a perpetual state of doing and growing has left me little time to reflect. So just for fun: what would you do if you were Will Pate? Work for a cool web startup? Start your own? Try to change a big company from the inside? Travel? Become an electrician? Explore your creative side? You tell me.

I can say the following with some authority based on the last time you changed jobs…
Perhaps you should not do anything for a while. Take a couple of months off from working. Still definitely do things like write and take photographs (do lots of that). I suppose this would fall under the category of “explore your creative side” but I would suggest you explore without the thought of it being job-like at all.
I know what I would have said 10 months ago.
Perhaps it is what I want for myself too that leads me to propose this. However, taking some time for yourself after you have been on the move and shake for so long seems like you’d be well served to just be Will for a while. Get a job if you need money but don’t work-work.

Take fewer self-portraits. We love looking at you, but we’ve done enough of that for a while.

Oh Joe, don’t front. Besides, that’s what Flickr is for.

If anything, Will should take more self portraits. I never tire of looking at Will…
Hmmm. If you could do it, I’d take the time off, like Matthew said. You could find what you really want to do (and of course, take photos of supermodels on the side). But, if you’ve gotta work, start-up all the way.
Then you can hire me for the non-techy writing

I think you should become an avid vlogger instead of taking 2384729384729387 pictures of yourself on Flickr. Boys look better when they’re moving.
